Sainte Foy Tarentaise was recently voted one of the World Top 10 ski resorts by Sean Newsom in The Sunday Times. Here's what he said:-
"Size doesn’t always matter — and Ste-Foy Tarentaise is a case in point. A tiny, four-lift resort, it has long been the preserve of off-piste guides, who bring their clients over when the powder in nearby Val d’Isère has been ground to crud. Now, however, thanks to some sensitively handled redevelopment, the place has been reborn — as a cute and quietly luxurious retreat for families (or anyone else who’s tired of the mega-resorts). Yes, the skiing is limited, but at all levels the quality is superb, and when you’ve had your fill, the larger lift systems at Les Arcs, Val d’Isère, Tignes and La Rosière are all within easy day-tripping distance."
Ste Foy comprises the traditional Savoyard village of Sainte Foy Tarentaise, and the actual ski resort of Ste-Foy Station, which is on the mountain 4km up from the village. During the ski season, a regular shuttle bus transports skiiers from the village to the ski station, so staying in Ste Foy Village itself is still a feasible option, even if you don't have a car, and offers the significant benefit of allowing you to ski a whole host of other resorts as well as Ste Foy - Tignes, Les Arcs, La Plagne, La Rosiere, Val d'Isere are all within 15 minutes!!
The initial accommodation in Ste Foy ski resort was developed by French developer MGM, with a selection of traditionally constructed chalets and apartments in the Savoyard style of stone and wood. Many of these chalets and apartments were sold on the French Leaseback Scheme, whereby the owners lease back their properties to a management company who manage the rentals of the properties. A smaller number of the earlier chalets were sold on a normal freehold arrangement, which can then be rented independently by the owner, either directly or through one of the number of small operators in Ste-Foy.
More recently there have been other developments of ski chalets and ski apartments by other developers, but again, all these chalets are very tastefully done.
The one major ski company operating in Sainte Foy is Premiere Neige, who provide both catered and self-catering chalets and apartments, including extras such as childcare facilities.
Sainte Foy Tarentaise village offers the experience of a working village, with easy access to the ski area at Ste Foy Station. For details of ski chalets and apartments in Sainte Foy Tarentaise village, click the link below:-
